During Good Friday, a bus and minibus incident.



Eleven people confirmed died in an accident between a bus and minibus collided on the N1 route near Leeu Gamka in the Western Cape on Good Friday. The incident took place at around 06:00, said the Road Traffic Management Corporation`s Simon Zwane.  A major crash occurred on Friday 15 April 2022 at approximately 6am on the N1 at Leeu Gamka at route marker N17 3,6N, Western Cape. Scania bus and a Toyota minibus were involved in a crash that resulted in ten fatalities (4 people from the minibus and six people from the bus) and an unknown number of injured people. It is alleged that the minibus was travelling from.


The province was expecting busy traffic over the long weekend said Western Cape MEC Daylin Mitchell. The minibus suffered a Tyre failure when it pulled to the side. And he also says, "We encourage all those who will be traveling this weekend to practice safe driving behavior, comply with the rules of the road, stay within the legal speed limits and observe adequate rest periods during travel in order to avoid fatigue".

The provincial traffic department had several interventions planned to promote road safety. Premier Alan Winde added: "It is important that we take every measure to promote safety on our roads over this period".
