Fans are hoping for solutions to some of the questions that have persisted considering the fact that the Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper used to be shot in an apparent botched house theft at the Vosloorus domestic of his girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, in 2014.Also there that day have been Khumalo, her mom Ntombi, her sister Zandi, Zandi’s boyfriend Longwe Twala, and Meyiwa’s pals Mthokozisi Twala and Tumelo Madlala.
Khumalo’s two kids — one aged four and the other, of whom Meyiwa was the father, just seven months — have been also present.
The 5 suspects — Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli — were arrested in October 2020, six years after Meyiwa’s death.
They are charged with premeditated murder, tried murder, robbery with nerve-racking circumstances, possession of firearms besides a licence and possession of ammunition. In courtroom on Friday, they pleaded now not responsible to all five counts.
Prosecutor George Baloyi advised the court one of the witnesses he deliberate to name would testify that the barrel of the homicide weapon had been in opposition to Meyiwa’s chest when the deadly shot was to be fired.
“The chest wound is constant with a contact bullet entrance wound. The wound at the lower back is regular with the exit returned wound with a downward trajectory,” Baloyi said.
He said the ballistics expert would testify that the shooter was once probably in front of Meyiwa when he pulled the trigger.
“They had been all looking at TV in the lounge, taking part in themselves at the house when the attackers struck in the evening, demanding cellphones and money,” Baloyi said.
Meyiwa was killed in the kitchen. “He was once rushed in his personal car, driven by Kelly Khumalo, to the nearby hospital in Botshelong where he was once declared useless on arrival.”
According to the charge sheet, two people entered the residence armed with a firearm and knife at about 8pm on October 26 2014. They demanded money and cellphones.
“A scuffle ensued between Meyiwa and the individual armed with a firearm, who had dreadlocks, a gold slit on one of the enamel and was carrying a khaki-coloured jacket. A shot was once discharged, hitting the ground and splinters struck Zandi on the proper ankle.
“A 2d shot went off and Meyiwa was then shot once in the chest while in a standing role and the bullet went via his chest, body and exited at his back and it hit the lower back of the door that Meyiwa was standing against. This was a contact shot.”
Three photographs had been discharged in total, in accordance to the indictment.
Baloyi said the country had about 15 witnesses to call, which include police officers who answered to the scene, pathologists, neighbours and ballistics experts.
The case was postponed to the next day after Baloyi said there was once now not enough time left on Friday for his first witness to commence giving evidence.
